Dual Tone Nail Art With Scotch Tape

Here is a quick and easy way to make a style statement with fancy nails right from the comforts of your home.

  • Two different colors of nail paint (opt for contrasting neons or pastels as they’re in fashion this season)
  • Clear nail paint
  • Clear tape

Step 1: Apply two coats of the base color on your nails and let them dry for 20 minutes. Make sure the layers of coats are not very thick as several other layers will be applied in the following steps as well.

Before you move onto Step 2 make sure your nails are completely dry because the tape used in the next step may cause the base color to chip or smudge if your nails are still wet.

Step 2: Cut one-inch pieces of tape and stick it on your finger nail diagonally. This is the time to be creative; you can stick the tape diagonally, vertically, or horizontally depending on what kind of a design you want on your nails. You can even try a combination of different designs on each finger nail.

After you have stuck the tape on all you finger nails ensure that there are no gaps on the edge of the tape since that may cause imperfections by creating a non-linear line.

Step 3: Paint the bottom half of your nail which is not covered in tape with a contrasting color other than the one applied in Step 1. In this case, I chose a creamy black nail paint as it works well with the mauve base paint. (Let your nails dry completely before moving onto the next step)

Step 4: Peel of the tape as soon as the black paint is dried. Peel it off in the direction in which the tape is stuck on the nail. If you opted for a horizontal or a vertical design, pull the tape off sideways or upwards respectively. I pulled the clear tape off diagonally as the clear tape was stuck in that direction.

Step 5: Let your nails dry for a few minutes and finish it off with a coat of clear nail polish to even out the bumps and rough edges caused by the tape or thick layers of nail paint.

If for some reason you find this DIY difficult to accomplish, don’t worry, try it on your own and you’ll find, it’s much easier then it looks.

I hope you guys try this DIY and feel free to comment below or leave me an email at ikreenadesai@gmail.com if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help you out.
