Stitch In Time

Recently I got my own sewing machine which enabled me to pursue my love for altering and making my own clothes. I purchased this detailed floral printed fabric and thought of the various things I could do with the material. After some serious deliberation with myself I got the urge of creating a high waist-ed skirt. This was followed by watching tons of “how to stitch a skirt” videos on YouTube, and voila I was finally getting down to biness.

This is how I stitched the high waist-ed skirt:

  1. I made tiny pleats on one side of the fabric and stitched it in a straight line.
  2. I made a one inch belt – half of canvas (for the stiffness) in the front and the other half of elastic in the back.
  3. I attached the belt and the pleated fabric together and then added a zip along with a hook on one side and stitched that side together.
  4. I finally hemmed the bottom of the skirt and ta-da my skirt was good to go.

P.S. you don’t need a sewing machine to stitch this, hand stitch will work as well.

As I always say, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to create a pretty outfit. A little bit of talent, creativity, and hard work will help you to get the job done easily.

P.S. Don’t let your neighbors and family friends find out you own a sewing machine, you might just spend all your time altering clothes for them, trust me!
