The Butterfly Effect

  • A bright orange, black, and white nail paint
  • A clear top coat
  • A permanent marker
  • A toothpick

Step 1: Paint your nails bright orange and let them dry for a few hours. Don’t apply a really thick coat because there are many more layers to come on top on it.

Step 2: Take a permanent marker and sketch the pattern, shown below, on all your finger tips.

The marker line is just a base that you will need for the next step, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

The pattern should look something like this, representing the butterfly wings.

Step 3: Take a toothpick and dip it in the black nail paint jar and carefully go over the marker line. This step is important to prevent the marker line to smudge away in a few days and to prevent the line to smear while applying the top coat. The marker line will be secured by black nail paint as it used as a guide for perfection.

Step 4: Take the brush from the nail paint jar and paint the bottom half of the nails avoiding the gaps formed between the pattern.

9It’s okay if the side of your fingers get a little messy, the nail paint will come off your skin once it is dry.

Step 5: Let your nails dry for some time. Now dip the other end of the toothpick in your white nail paint jar and create medium sized polka dots on the bottom half of the nails.

Step 6: Complete this nail art with a glossy top coat of nail polish and you are ready to flaunt stylish nails.

I hope you guys liked this do-it-yourself nail art which is absolutely cost effective. Please so send me pictures of stylish nail art on and I will try to break it down for you step-by-step on this blog.
